Class 4 Restricted and Unrestricted Online Learners Series
All Nations Driving Academy hosts a monthly online Class 4 driver education workshop to support individuals and communities preparing for Class 4 Restricted and Class 4 Unrestricted licensing in British Columbia.
These sessions are designed for Indigenous communities, Friendship Centres, and organizations supporting employment, community transportation, and essential services. The workshop can be promoted locally and attended by individuals or small groups.
The focus is on understanding Class 4 licensing requirements, preparing for the knowledge test, and building confidence in a supportive, culturally safe learning environment.
Who This Workshop is For
This Class 4 workshop is intended for:
Individuals preparing for the Class 4 Restricted or Unrestricted knowledge test
- Community members pursuing employment that requires a Class 4 licence
- Drivers supporting community transportation, elders shuttles, or local services
- Indigenous communities and organizations building local driving capacity
- Employment and training programs that include professional driving roles
This licence is commonly required for roles such as:
- Taxi and ride-for-hire drivers
- Ambulance drivers
- Community and elders shuttle drivers (up to 25 passengers)
What to Expect In The Online Session
Each workshop is facilitated by All Nations Driving Academy and focuses on preparation. During the session, participants can expect:
- An overview of Class 4 Restricted and Unrestricted licensing in BC
- Explanation of the differences between licence types
- Review of rules of the road specific to professional and passenger transport
- Discussion of passenger safety, responsibilities, and duty of care
- Practice questions and examples similar to those found on the knowledge test
- Guidance on what to expect on test day
- Time for questions and discussion
Sessions are delivered in plain language and designed to support understanding, confidence, and readiness. Those seeking to participate must be at least 19 years old and hold a valid class 5 drivers license before moving on to a commercial drivers license.
This workshop will be taught from Monday to Thursday in the evenings to allow those who are in school or are working to participate. If you are hoping to host this during the day, please reach out at info@driveallnations.com to inquire on availability.
Class 4 Basic Requirements
To apply for a Class 4 licence in British Columbia, individuals generally need to:
- Meet minimum age requirements set by ICBC
- Provide acceptable identification
- Hold a valid Class 5 license
- Complete a medical examination
- Pass the Class 4 knowledge test
- Complete required road testing
Requirements may vary between restricted and unrestricted licences. Participants are encouraged to confirm current requirements directly with ICBC or their local driver licensing office.
Note that the size of the vehicle used for the road test will determine if you will hold a class 4 restricted or unrestricted drivers license. The learners test is the same regardless of the final license you would like to hold.
Preparing For The Workshop
Participants are encouraged to:
- Review the ICBC driving guides related to Class 4 licensing
- Complete practice tests in advance
- Attend the session with questions related to professional or community driving roles
Study strategies and preparation tips are discussed during the workshop.
Monthly Schedule and Community Participation
This Class 4 workshop is offered once per month. In order to secure participation for your membership, communities must register in advance. Indigenous communities, Friendship Centres, and organizations are welcome to:
- Promote upcoming sessions to community members
- Host group viewing sessions where appropriate
- Include the workshop as part of employment, education, or life-skills programming
